In a dramatic intervention highlighting the dangerousness of the situation, Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna, strongly condemned the new attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz.
Ulyanov placed the international community before its responsibilities, emphasizing the deadly risks that arise from such military actions.
The Russian diplomat was clear, these attacks do not constitute only a hostile act, but a blatant violation of the fundamental rules governing international security.
Ulyanov reminded that the policymaking bodies of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have long characterized such reckless actions as a violation of international law.
Strikes on nuclear sites directly violate the Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of the Agency itself.
Ulyanov’s warning was ominous.
The continuous attacks on sensitive infrastructure, such as the uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz, do not only hit Tehran’s nuclear program, but create a real risk of causing a nuclear disaster that could affect the entire Middle East region.
These actions entail the risk of creating a nuclear catastrophe, he stated characteristically, calling for immediate restraint.
Russia, which maintains close ties with Iran and has played a decisive role in the development of its nuclear program for peaceful purposes, now appears as the main critic of the military solution promoted by Washington and Tel Aviv.
